Active Tchnologies @ PHISIC 2022

Active Technologies is present at PHISIC 2022 conference in cooperation with French distributor Equipments Scientifiques

Conference FR

In the field of hardware security, following the introduction of Meltdown and Spectre attacks, 2022 saw a further development of numerous micro-architectural attacks. Also new emerging side channels were reported and are making it possible to conduct physical attacks remotely (e.g. screaming channels, FPGA-hammer). Within the idea of making cryptography as light as possible (LWC) and as long-term as possible (post-quantum cryptography), the need to efficiently implement emerging cryptography on hardware in a secure way is more and more vivid. This is for example illustrated by two ongoing competitive standardisation processes (NIST post-quantum and lightweight-cryptography).

In this context, the PHISIC workshop aims at providing an environment for exchange among academic and industrial experts of the embedded security arena.

Active Technologies supports the reserch activities with AWG-5000 the world’s fastest 16 bit Arbitrary Waveform Generator, the only instrument capable to reach 5Vpp – 110 ps rise and fall time at the output. Thanks to this unique feature the AWG-5000 can drive directly an EOM (Electro Optical Modulator) avoiding the need of an external amplifier.

The AWG-5000 can be used to generate arbitrary sequences and fast pulses down to 230ps of width.

How to generate a Pulsed Laser Source by a Mach-Zehnder switch and AWG-5000 Waveform Generator

Department of Physics, Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin just published a nice paper about:

Collective excitation and decay of waveguide-coupled atoms:
from timed Dicke states to inverted ensembles

The collective emission of radiation by an ensemble of atoms is a central problem in quantum optics that has recently seen renewed interest in the context of optical quantum technologies. There, the super- and subradiant states that emerge when a propagating light field couples to a spatially extended ensemble of emitters can be used as a resource to implement novel protocols, e.g., in the context of quantum information, quantum communication, and frequency standards. The underlying, so called timed Dicke regime has been extensively studied, both theoretically and experimentally, e.g., with ensembles of laser-cooled atoms in the optical domain.

Pulsed laser beam and AWG-5000 Waveform Generator

The application demonstrate how to generate a pulsed laser beam starting from a continuous wave laser, using the amplitude modulation of a Mach-Zehnder optical switch, which is controlled by the the AWG-5000 Arbitrary Waveform Generator. The unique feature of AWG-5000 of 5Vpp amplitude with 110ps rise time, allows the generator to drive directly the Mach-Zehnder optical switch.
